Re: European Fire Ant Colony Help!!
I would be wary of using vaseline if you have any type of soil or refuse present. I had a a few hundred wild tetramorium immigrans workers that I tested various methods on. Vaseline was good initially however the ants began placing soil and other debri into the vaseline like stepping stones which th...

Update on my wild caught Lasius Niger
This colony is thriving right now... I caught the queen and around a hundred workers so ot had a stable foundation to begin with. It took a few days for the workers to explore their temporary set up which is 3 test tubes connected by a T connector and tubing attached to a makeshift outworld. Waiting...

Re: Multi-Queen Lasius Flavis
Everything is still going well... This colony is sbout a year old. Right now there are around 20-30 eclosed workers... 6 have emerged so far. The larva pile is around probably 40-60... quite large but the egg pile is bigger thsn both eclosed and larva... guessing 200-300. I've witnessed the eggs bir...

Unfortunately if she has eggs it will not likely work.

Bug Vacuum
Has anyone tried these on ant brood? I have been going on quite a few "nature walks" aka ant finding expeditions and I'm trying to think up a quick and efficient way to gather brood without it taking ages or damaging to the brood.

Lasius Niger vs Tetramorium Immigrans
Seems the Tetramorium that claim the majority of the area around the side and back of my house have begun to encroach on the territory of a large Lasius Niger colony in my garden area... this Lasius Niger colony controls a fairly large portion of my back yard however the Tetramorium colony appears t...

New additions!
As I was exiting my ant room attached to my garage late last night (2am about my time) and headed up my steps I saw a large black insect... Initially thought it was one of the large black wood beetles since they have been plentiful this time of year. It seemed a bit faster and it went into the shado...

Disaster in my set-up
My tetramorium colony is in peril it seems... not exactly sure what happened but it looks like they were unable to care for the brood that i boosted with properly. I cant tell if the test tube has moisture from condensation or the test tube began to leak or a combination or my other theory is the la...

Captured a wild Lasius Niger queen+workers
Normally dont do this type of thing but I was moving some firewood around my firepit and happened upon a young Lasius Niger colony... young because it wasnt there last year and there arent a large amount of workers. The colony was in a bad spot so I kept her and wrangled up around 100-200 workers. T...

Re: Not sure what is going on with my queen anyone know ?
Is she moving on her own at all? It has been my experience that when something like you mentioned occurs the queen or ant in question is likely on her death bed.
