Always include a location AND a measurement for ID requests. :)

Re: hopefully a queen found in Philadelphia, Pa USA

Pheidole sp., Pheidole bicarinata or Pheidole pilifera. I'm leaning towards the latter, which seems to like to fly on the same day as rain.

Re: A confirmation and a possible

I am still stumped about this small Camponotus queen, but it seems that whatever kind she is might be a taxonomical mess yet to be sorted out. Regarding similar ants in that location, the coloration matches C. fragilis, which is a smaller Tanaemyrmex species, but perhaps not small enough to fit your...

Re: Ant queen

Rarely, a random male will be part of a queen's first brood (males are what come from unfertilized eggs.) If all of the cocoons are large-ish and turn out to be males, it means the queen did not mate successfully. It's best to euthanize such colonies. I'm sorry if she is unmated. That's always a hug...

Re: A confirmation and a possible

You're right about Crematogaster , but there are quite a few possibilities as to the species. C. lineolata is common in that area. The yellowish queen is Camponotus sp. Is the measurement as accurate as you could get it? The black "queens" are wasps of some sort. The saw-like mandibles and curved an...

Re: Queen ant ID (Singapore)

Pheidologeton is the old outdated name for ants of this type. This queen is Carebara sp. , likely Carebara affinis , but C. diversa may also be a possibility. Do your research on Carebara and its old namesake Pheidologeton , as this species could have some special needs. A very interesting genus, m...

Re: Queen with eggs wont move.

Dumping or forcing her to move is a bad idea, particularly at this stage. Raising the colony in a tube is the best and most reliable start.

It shouldn't be difficult to move the colony after she has workers.
