Re: Is it better catching wingless queens?

I want to add that ants who have not mated, still have the ability to lay eggs. However, the ants that hatch from the eggs will be male drones which are useless.

Queen Stopped Laying Eggs?

So I have a tetramorium colony of what I’d say is about 100 ants now. I’ve had the colony since I caught the queen last summer. I have a tetramorium hybrid nest connected to an outworld, and provide my ants with honey and agave nectar, aswell as crickets and small mealworms. My queen used to always ...

Re: Do i feed a queen caught in her wild nest ?

If she’s not a new queen, she definitely needs to be fed. The reason new queen ants don’t need to be fed, is because they metabolize their wing muscles after breaking off their wings. This queen has already done all of that and no longer has any wing muscles to metabolize. You definitely should’ve t...

Re: Switching test tubes

The water may run out but the cotton could still be moist enough for her. A queen will move if she feels that her environment is unsuitable for her. From my experience, I’d say the worst thing you can do with a queen ant is worry too much and try to make her do something she doesn’t want to do. Soun...

My queen make two clumps of eggs even though she only has 7-10 eggs. Is that ok!?
Your queen definitely knows what she’s doing with her eggs. She will do whatever she thinks is best for them and move them to the dryer or more moist side of the test tube based on what they need.

Re: Hybrid Nest With Frequent Escapes

There isn’t a lot of information to go off of here. What did you use to close all the ports on the nest? Also I would definitely not recommend gorilla glue to glue down the glass, as it can be toxic to your ants. Plain old Elmer’s Glue has worked just fine for my tetramorium for about a year now.

Re: Is this ok for a test tube alternative?

The nice thing about a test tube setup is it keeps disturbances of the queen to a minimum. Disturbing her creates a lot of stress and she’s less likely to lay eggs or even live if the environment isn’t ideal. Having to rewet the tissue means you have to disturb the queen, and be a little invasive in...

Old Outworlds

I saw that there are new outworlds on the AntsCanada store, and I saw that they are currently out of stock. I was wondering if there were any old outworlds left for sale, or maybe some “defective” products for a discount that were available. I was also looking for a tetramorium formicarium if there ...
