Re: Queen's 2nd meal (protein right?)
So buy a few crickets and freeze them. That way they keep a while and freezing gets rid of most parasites. I have a bearded dragon so he eats live crickets anyway. I feed my small colony's cricket legs and squashed termites. You have to make sure the insect is completely dead or else you can scare ...

BatSpiderFish said " Lasius niger is not common in North America, so it's probably a different species of Lasius ". I'm pretty sure I got formica subsericea. Weird time to get it though. It looks more like the formica one than the Lasius Niger, which is why I'm pretty sure it's the formica, because...

Re: Massachusetts Flight Sightings
Lasius niger is not common in North America, so it's probably a different species of Lasius . You'd have to go by its fine anatomical details. lol probably should have looked that up, when thinking that it was a Niger. Lasius does seem to be a rather large genus though. My bad. Better keep go...

Re: Massachusetts Flight Sightings
YES! It turns out now is the time for the ants to fly at my camp! ;) I already caught one, and I saw dead males, and queens flying around (didn't catch them because when I tried catching the flying ones they only wanted to fly away again) I was able to catch one in the afternoon with no wings. Ther...

Re: Moving queen with workers to omni nest.
other than fluon (liquid teflon), the only thing better than baby powder and alcohol is if you took packing tape, lined the sides of the outworld with it and then brushed on a THIN layer of baby powder and alcohol . If its too thick, they will be able to grab on. I haven't had the opportunity to te...

Re: Queen's 2nd meal (protein right?)
Just remember two things when catching wild insects. #1 Do not do it anywhere near houses or buildings. There is always the chance that they may have come in contact with some sort of insecticide. #2 Any wild caught insects increase your chance of infesting your nests/colonies with mites. Mites can...
