G'day all just found this ant on a water tank on my property, looks very interesting.
It was solitary and has a golden back and is about 10-12mm long.
I don't think it is but could it be a queen?
Should add this is Australia, NSW/QLD border east coast area.

Thank you! After all 3 queens pupated their first workers I decided to keep only 1 queen, it was a hard choice but I chose to keep the first queen as she and her workers seem to have more personality and are smaller which should mean they are easier to contain. The other 2 queens were realeased and ...

I feel so bad for that Queen that was being swarmed, I'm not trying to say you did any wrong but you should have captured her instantly & not looked away. But I bet in the heat of the moment you didn't know what to do. Not trying to say you did any wrong, though, hopefully she & the others made it ...
