Myrmica rubra question
I got questions on what I think is 'common' M. rubra, dwarf queen variety. How do you recognize so small queens? I tried capturing winged alates earlier, and only got males. Is Camponotus better for beginners than the small Myrmica ants?

An alternative is to look for them, see here: http://www.antwiki.org/wiki/Ants_of_New_York_City Even if ppl don't think of ants as urban, they are there. Watch the AntsCanada video on catching queen ants, where Mike walks along paths and tells about what to look for. Personally I will look for Campo...

Re: Catching Queens During Nuptial Flight

Re: Dark Myrmica ants
I just got dead male alates...
Anyone got any tricks for looking for Myrmica ant Queens, since they seem to have flights now? My error was to assume the big swarm I saw was a mix of both male and female, seems the entire swarm flying and gathered on ground was mostly males.

Dark Myrmica ants
Hello I have tried to capture some Queens of dark myrmica who had a flight yesterday, and might have 1 or 2, but have some questions. I need to observe them a bit, feed some sugar water, and see if I actually have queens, might be males... are all Myrmica semi-claustral, or both? how do I know if mi...
