Re: My journey keeping a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Colony
That is so awesome. They look really cool. Hopefully, they are treating you nicely. To say nicely is an understatement. No escape attempts, low maintenance and whenever I stick my hands in their formicarium they don't even consider them as a threat! Just amazing! :D Wow they’re doing very well! Thi...

Re: HELP FOUND BLACK ANT IN MID OCTOBER, DELAWARE
Sorry for taking this much time, I thought I had replied to your post, but I actually didn't... :( Unfortunately the picture is a bit too blurry in order to be able to tell all her traits. Could you try to take some more please? One thing that's pretty clear is her overall gaster shape though. I'll ...

Definitely Camponotus sp., not sure about the sub-species though, since I'm not from the US. I'll have to dig some more.

Re: Camponotus nearcticus hibernation
From what I read on the internet (beware I've found very little information about this sub-species) they do hibernate, since they can be found even in Canada. In order to hibernate a colony you have to gradually lower the temperature in their nest/setup to a certain range, then set them aside restin...

Re: Messors attacking each other.
It's been a few days and they are all calm. Don't know what their trip was. I kept Messor Barbarus before and the only occasion I saw them "biting" eachother was for "transport purposes". What I mean is majors would from time to time take with their jaws smaller workers and carry them around, then ...

Re: My journey keeping a Camponotus Pennsylvanicus Colony
Oh wow! Do you see what I see??!! Just when you think that’s it for the season. Yep! That’s another pupae on the top of the cluster of larvae. She’s tiny but I’m not surprised because they haven’t been eating much protein. https://i.imgur.com/49dfiVO.jpg They've definitely been busy! And look...
