She is a claustral species, so she will be fine until her first workers arrive, if she is indeed mated.
The queen is very tiny. If she lays eggs will I be able to see them? I think I'll check on her on Monday or Tuesday.

Re: Monomorium Queen?

The place I put her in is about 75* and isn't disturbed much. It's under the kitchen sink. If she is fertile, about how long undisturbed will it take for her to lay eggs and or drop her wings? Can I check on her in a day or two to see if she's ok?

I'm going to try to get my Formica colony to grow well :D
All dead. But now I got a Nylanderia queen! She has wings, but shows signs of being fertile. Not using her wings. Was abandoned walking on the pavement etc.

Measurement??

Looks like Nylanderia sp.
I put the tube next to a ruler. Measurement is in inches. About 1/4 of an inch.

Monomorium Queen?

So, besides the 4 parasites I got, I DID find one small queen alate running on the pavement. She has wings but never used them and was alone walking around. So, I'm hoping she's fertile. Looks a bit different to the T. Sessile queen I got a few days ago that died. The long gåster makes me think it's...

Re: Queen ID

Yeah, this is Lasius umbratus . You should be able to use most kinds of Lasius , but most of the past successes have come from the niger-group. That spike is called the petiolar scale, and all ants from Formicinae have one. A friend of mine in NJ, MrILoveTheAnts says it looks so. I'm gonna try gett...
