Re: Looking for a Queen in Kentucky
I'm having a very hard time finding a Queen. Hoping someone near Louisville KY can help me. ---------------------- If you are having trouble finding queens yourself, you could buy them from a local GAN (Global Ant Nursery) farmer (person who sells queens). Go to AntsCanada.com and click on the Quee...

Re: Was thinking about starting an ant farm, want to release when too big.
So I've been diving into ant breeding and all the may come along with it. I learned you want to be responsible when releasing ants into the wild, but I want to go into this adventure with the idea that is the end goal. So I came looking for local ant enthusiasts for some help! LOCAL became a broad ...

Re: Polyergus/F. Subscericea Setup
So, an interesting opportunity recently arose. I have a friend who raised a mature colony of F. Subscericea, and he is moving away and offered to give me the colony. It looks to have between 500 and 2000 ants (it's hard to tell because his setup is natural and I can't see in most of their nest). La...

Incubator
I am going to buy an incubator originally designed for chicken eggs to heat my ants with, instead of a heating cable. This way I can see the temperature they are at, and control it. I plan to keep them at at least 85 degrees F. (29 C.) Do you think 90 degrees (32 C.) would be too hot for them?

Re: Camponotus nearcticus
Unfortunately, the workers all died. I then decided to move the queen and her brood into a test tube where I could view her more easily. I counted five pupae, and two larvae. All pupae had ant silhouettes showing through, so the workers should close in the next few days.

Re: Nuptial flight
So I know in the U.S Camponotus species have had their nuptial flight in the bulk of May but is it still possible to find queens? I have always wanted a camponotus queen but have only found one two years ago. Any advice as to where to go that’d be great! I’m only use to Tetramorium and Pogo’s at th...

Re: Help with tube size
I'm wanting to get a camponotus herculeanus queen (from GAN) and I have a camponotus hybrid nest and was wondering in the tubing that fits it is to small for the queen? I will have to drive 5 total hrs to get the queen and want to be sure that my setup will work b4 I do. I have that formicarium and...
