As a general rule you do not buy queens on their own, you either find them (since that costs you much less) or buy a colony with a few or many, many workers because if it is just a queen there is a chance she is infertile, and workers are one of the only ways to tell without specialized equipment. ;...

My Formica. Sp queens have all stopped laying eggs around fall, I'm no expert but I believe they do this since some Formica sp brood cannot survive hibernation so they don't "waste" resources on them if they will not produce a worker by hibernation, sorry for the late post. :oops:

Yes I did capture her, I currently have her in a test tube setup under a cloth in my garage with all my other founding queens. :P
