Re: Camponotus alates in March??

If you found her inside, then the colonies that started the uptial flight probably had prime conditions. Then, the outside colonies just had to go with it.

Is this Normal?

Yesterday, when I was checking up on my ant colonies, I noticed a strange pupae. The queen is Lasius. Here are the pictures (sorry about the quality, I took thesse on my phone).

Need these Colonies Identified

Recently, I've realized that I have too many ant colonies. The solution I found was to sell through the GAN project. I thought that I knew what species these ants were, but, when I searched up photos to make sure, they didn't match. Here is a link to the pictures for two of these colonies (same spec...

Re: What species is this queen?

I don't think that it's a male because I found it in a cholosteral chamber. Were there any workers in it? If so, how many? If there were a lot of workers poring out of the nest, then it was probably a male. If there were brood and a few workers or just brood it was probably a queen. If it is a quee...

Re: I need an I.D. for this queen

I've been looking at pictures of velvet ants, and none resemble what I've caught. Because of this, I'm going to keep it and hope it lays eggs.

I need an I.D. for this queen

This morning, I found a queen near a river. Once I caught her, I saw her weird colouration that I've never seen before. I don't even recognise the shape.

Re: Terrarium set up

I don't think that camponotus ants can use that trick, but if you are worried, use suck tape or painters tape to round out the corners by applying layers on top of each other.

Re: Camponotus Castaneus Help

If you are worried that they want to forage a lot, then you should use vinyl tubing to connect an outworld. If then nest entrance is too big, what I do is tape some cotton around the tubing.

Re: I'm nervous

Even if they can climb 90 degree corners, depending on the size of the colony, they might not. also, if they can, I would recommend using duck tape or painters tape to make the corners rounded.
