Re: Still waiting for hibernation...

I totally get where you're going and you're right. My room is about 17-18 °C at the moment but I'll hibernate all of my remaining colonies asap... I've been waiting way too much. I indeed read somewhere the fact about cocoons not surviving the winter, but at this point I'd rather sacrifice some indi...

GAN informations not displaying

Hello, I applied to the GAN project at the end of September and I got accepted. The only problem is whenever I try to check my infos through the AntsCanada Ant Store > Queen Ants for Sale, and put in my country (Italy), all the details I had given are not there, all the fields are empty. Is this due...

Still waiting for hibernation...

Hi everyone! I've already put half of my colonies in hibernation in my fridge and they're doing fine. The problem is that some of the other half still have cocoons, so I'm still waiting for them to hatch but it's taking forever (it has already been 3 weeks now). It's almost December, so my question ...

Re: Dead or Hibernating?

As long as you don't shake the test tubes too much they should not be bothered by the quick move. I'm currently keeping some of mine at 6°C in the fridge and they seem to be ok. I know going so low compared to the room temperature might be scary, but ants know how to deal with cold very well. They e...

Re: Dead or Hibernating?

Ok, 17/18 °C is indeed not enough for a proper hibernation unfortunately.

Do you have a fridge where you can store the test tube? They should stay from around 5 to 10 °C.

As for the little movement yes, she has definitely slowed down due to the colder temperatures.

Re: Messor Supermajors?

Oh, that makes absolutely sense. Now that I think about it yes, I've fed them a lot and different kind of proteins in the past months such as mealworms, crickets, roach pieces, spiders and so on. Doing so I managed to understand what they prefer so next year, when the population will be booming, I'l...

Re: Move Ants Too Soon? Pheidole Mega

If I were you I'd keep her in the test tube for now. Just keep her in a dark and quiet place, she doesn't need any extra stress. When she'll reach a nice number of workers that's when you'll have to make the move. Keep in mind also that if a colony is young, the queen will only lay a few eggs a day/...

Re: I need help

For hibernating your colony it's important to know their species. I checked all 3 the species you hinted at the beginning and they should all hibernate at the same temperature (from 41 to 50 F) from November to March. Before hibernating them always check if they're ready (as I said before see if the...

Also from what you saw are they still ok? They are not dying I hope?
Wait, were you referring to mine or yours, sorry?
Because if you were talking about yours I couldn't see them well in the pictures.
