Possible budding??
Hi, I think this species is a pheidole but I’m kinda new at this. I’ve found multiple alates around the colony, but then there are a few dealates looking like they are being taken into the colony via small workers. Would it be okay to take the dealates? If so, should I bring workers too? I’m in sout...

Re: Ant eggs question/advice
that are a lot of eggs :D Try to keep her warm so they can grow. Perhaps try to put her on a warmer place. Yeah, the eggs came out of nowhere. The first couple days there were only a few and now it’s a huge pile. And thanks for the advice. I have her in a pretty warm spot right now but I’ll try and...

Re: Ant eggs question/advice
It would really depend on what colony you have. Usually it takes about 1 month. To make sure it's solenopsis you could provide us with some photos so we could try to give her the right identification. I’m sorry the quality is pretty grainy. I’m using my phone camera because I’m in college and my ac...

Ant eggs question/advice
Not sure if this was the right section to post under, but I am new to ant keeping and am founding what I believe to be solenopsis invicta ants. I live in southeast Louisiana, so that’s really all I seem to find right now because I started kinda late. Anyways, I noticed two out of the three queens la...

Re: ARK-LA-TN-MS-AL-GA-SC-NC nuptial flights
I can confirm the solenopsis findings are abundant. Just walking around LSU campus today and yesterday, I found 3. I’ve found 4 solenopsis total mainly in the evenings, and only one had a wing. I see camponotus but can never seem to find a queen unfortunately.

Queen ant ID help
Hi, I caught this one yesterday and was needed help to confirm ID. I believe she is a solenopsis but I’m new at this. She’s between 8 and 10 mm and I’m located in southeast Louisiana. In the pictures, she seems almost curled on the water side of the test tube. I didn’t want to try moving her for the...

Re: ARK-LA-TN-MS-AL-GA-SC-NC nuptial flights
Just wanted to update the thread with some nuptial flight info: I’m based in southeast Louisiana and after a day of rain, I saw some alates (I believe to be pheidole because of the large-headed workers) clustered around the nest. They have yet to move away from the nest though; not sure when they wi...

Rain and nuptial flights
hi, yesterday there was rain where I live (southeast Louisiana) and after 2 weeks of searching, I finally found a cluster of queens around a nest preparing for the nuptial flight. This was at around 9:30 am. I know they are not fertilized, so I decided to check back up later. At around 11, I saw the...

Louisiana possible tiny queen ant ID
Hi, could someone please help me identify this (hopefully) queen ant. I am located in southeast Louisiana, and the ant is black and about 1/5 inches long. I included a link which has it on a q-tip for size comparison. I do believe it has a stinger if that makes a difference because it was on me at o...
