Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I actually pulled a piece of bark off a tree and found one. Just look in most types of rotting wood or any wood for that mater.

I'm having to live with the fact that a watched egg never hatches. I just can't wait for nanitics. :D

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

From my limited experience and research, @Kherafox, ants seem to use multiple ques to determine when they have nuptial flights. Humidity is one, and I thought wind would be another. I've seen ant queens out on calm sunny days and even in a stiff breeze! Most of mine I have caught were either on war...

Queens(without wings) will have wing scars. And males die after mating. If it looks more like a black wasp, it is probabl...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

We can drop it.

And Kherafox, I think it might work, but I tried doing that with a garden hose and it didn’t work.

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Thanks for all the ideas guys. Pretty much all those are bugs I can get.

I guess the ones I should be asking the question to is the ants. it’ll be up to them to decide what they want to eat.

And Lasius, it’s no problem, just maybe don’t write after a long day. :) might be a good idea.

Re: First Workers and Feeding?

Yeah, sugar is energy for the workers and queen. What they need now is a cricket leg or some source of protein. More honey will only help the workers and queen, and right now they are worrying about the other brood, larvi, and eggs. If you give them a protein source, then they might eat the honey. H...
