Re: Crematogaster journal
I found a better and easier way to house this colony. I found a small plastic critter keeper so I put in rocks as the substrate and I set the test tubes (The old one and the new one) inside. I put a piece of grape in there and a few of them sat on top of it and drank the juice. I spread Vaseline aro...

Re: Pseudomyrmex gracilis journal
Ok, so the previous queen died. I don't know why, but there are various reasons why that could've happened. I wasn't too surprised, since she hadn't laid any eggs in the entire time I had her. But now I have caught another Pseudomyrmex gracilis queen! I decided to put her in a regular test tube setu...

Re: Crematogaster journal
Here's a small update: They have all went back into the old tube, but I put a piece of mealworm in the new tube and the workers forage into there and eat the mealworm. The tubes are taped together but to feed them I will have to take off several layers of tape.. I guess I'll just have to deal with i...

Re: Crematogaster journal
4 or five of my tetramorium workers got stuck in honey, I pulled them out and rinsed them off then blew on them and they came back to life. The crematogaster worker that was stuck in the honey might not have died now that I know they can survive that long without drowning. Within a couple days they...

Re: Crematogaster journal
Now two more have died. I don't know what to do. All the alive ones have moved back into the old tube and even look like they have abandoned some pupae. I really don't want to harm the queen or any more workers or brood. This is a mess. I might just try to do the light shining method, maybe it will ...

Re: Crematogaster journal
There were 10-11 workers recently, but now 3 or 4 of them are dead. When I put in another drop of honey, one of the workers got stuck in it and died. They have been in a tiny test tube that the queen was put in when I caught her, and that test tube ran out of water. But the size and length of the te...

Re: Trachymymex sp. Journal
How many mm in length is the queen? When I've seen nuptial flights happening with this species, there are tiny black males and the female alates are really small, only a little larger than the largest workers. The males look like their body is smaller than the workers also. A couple days ago I disco...

Re: First Brachymyrmex colony
August 24, 2016 Now there are a lot of pupae. Probably around 20! I am expecting some of them to start hatching very soon! These past couple weeks have been exciting for me, since my Crematogaster queen and my Pheidole obscurithorax queen have both gotten their nantics, and now this B. patagonicus ...

Re: Crematogaster journal
My Crematogaster colony now has 5 workers! I put a drop of honey in there when there was 1 nantic, and they have eaten the whole drop. The workers are pretty dark colored, but they are more dark brown than black like the queen is. http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r609/astoll9/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG...
