Re: Another queen. Tetramorium?

Congrats! You got yourself a Camponotus nearcticus. Lots of people miss this one because they expect all camponotus to be huge but this one is actually smaller. The easiest way to tell with this species is one, the head is very Camponotus like, as wide as its thorax, and two the length of the gastor...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

Hey MikeLikesAnts. You picked a good time to start as it is currently nuptial flight season. What kind of questions do you have? What do you want to know? I myself am a GAN farmer out of FT Meade about 25 minutes outside Baltimore so I have quite a bit of experience at this point and would be more t...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

I wouldnt destroy your nest if I were you. Maybe try flushing water through one of the openings to get her out? like hold the nest under the sink? So today I managed to take some really thin wire and wrapped cotton around it. Using this weird wire/cotton contraption, I was able to remove my dearly ...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

I actually tried that. I actually drained the water basin but due to it being built in I wasn't actually able to get her out. Her body hasn't moved. She's definitely dead unfortunately. Now I'm just trying to determine if I should leave her body in there or if I should cut open the mesh to get her o...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

UPDATE October 14, 2017 I'm afraid I have sad news. This past week I attempted to move my Ponera into my specially ordered Tarheel Ants formicarium. Unfortunately, it was not properly designed and there was a small crevice in the rock that my Ponera P. was able to get into. This crevice unfortunatel...

Re: The Infamous Ponera Pennsylvanica. I need Help.

The last post was August of last year... Did the queen survive? How is she doing if she did? I have one right now, got her all the way to a worker with 2 additional larvae so far. I keep her in a test tube with a nice base of sand inside, enough for her to dig her own tiny tunnels. I hydrate her soi...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

UPDATE: September 25, 2017 Bad news... So, unfortunately I have bad news. My Ponera P. worker died yesterday. I attempted to connect my test tube up to a small outworld that was 3-D printed (you can see it in earlier photos. It's a small black 3-D printed box). It had a layer of sand substrate in it...

Re: I'm new! My introduction! And my Ants! Featuring Ponera Pennsylvannica!

September 18, 2017 UPDATE: GREAT NEWS EVERYONE! My first nanantic has officially hatched! Yay! I haven't been able to get any photos of her yet. Her exoskeleton is still soft and she is practically translucent, which is causing her to not show up clearly in the photos. As soon as she darkens a bit m...

Re: Pheidole Bicarinata and Polyganomy Question/Experiment

No updates yet, but I promise I'll let you know once I've attempted a merge between the colonies. I haven't tried introducing them to each other yet. Once I have attempted it I will post updates. And I will definitely take photos. To excited about this not too. I'll probably try to get video but I d...

Re: Pheidole Bicarinata and Polyganomy Question/Experiment

@AntsSA Thank you. If you had 6 queens living cooperatively that at least confirms for me that they are polyganous. I think that's what I'll do. I was thinking I'll put both tubes in a clear box (car model display case - great for outworlds by the way) and I'll cover one with foil. Then observe. If ...
