Lasius alienus queens are a couple millimeters smaller than Lasius neoniger queens and are darker. The workers are also smaller and darker. They also often nest in wooded areas.

BTW I believe species name is lowercase. Ex. Lasius flavus not Lasius Flavus

That only works for Solenopsis, however. There is no such indication for a lot of northern species.
