Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Question, when your gear arrived did you guys rinse it or wash it? And, is it okay to do so? I haven't yet, because my queens are so far from needing any transferring at this point, I've got time, but hot water and air dry, someone suggested a little bit of white vinegar mixed with the hot water if...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

You calling me a little kid? Just kidding, my queens hardly even move when I peek in. I do try to space it out though. lol no that's how I feel while waiting ... I think my crematogaster queen ate her first brood and laid a larger pile of new brood, cause I was checking her daily and she got ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I don’t tape my portal. It fits pretty snug so I’m not worried about it falling off. The lid for mine doesn't fit snug, it's more like it's just sitting on top. it's not leaving a crack for them to get out, so it fits like it's supposed to but it's not snug like the tubes are. I'll probably have a ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

So, I tried not to peek at the queens til saturday, but I only made it half the time. Something that concerns me though... I'm pretty sure Helena's broodpile is larger, but I -think- they are all the same size, smaller egg size like they were freshly laid. Or they could be mixed and I looked too clo...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Cool. I am really happy that Helena has workers? Well anyway I'm really glad that you were able to see this. LOL. . Helena doesn't have workers, it was the feral colony outside on my/my neighbor's balcony. ^_^ They provide a great preview of how her workers will be. They also help redirect th...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Since I've been so 'bad' and looking in on my two queens every day even just for a peek, I'm making myself not look til saturday at the earliest. :( But, I've been having .. fun..? ... trying to get rid of this round of birdseed moths... sometimes I don't know where they get their population explosi...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Yay, I got my pack of bits of AC gear! well, "gear"... got a pack of tubes (was using 4" plant water picks... not enough room for long once workers show up), pack of plugs and a test tube portal. Should tape be enough to secure the main body of the portal's lid to the portal? For those of you who ha...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I've met 40-year-old 'children' before and 12-year-olds that are wise and mature far beyond their years. Individual experiences and our actions are what define us in my opinion, while age simply serves as a convenient base-line of what to expect from someone you don't know better. Personally, I tre...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I think there could be an interesting anthropomorhpological fictional book to be written there. Each entry following a generation of the same colony belonging to an ant keeper. I've thought of writing a book from an ants perspective before. omg I could probably totally do a short story with aliens ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Good news and slight sad news, for those who are invested in every ant queen. Helena is still caring very well for her eggs/maybe larvae. I don't have a magnifying glass so I can't tell if some of the eggs are shiny because they are damp (she is draining that water reservoir very fast for an ant.. I...
