My colony of myrmecocystus mexicanus honeypot ants are not waking up from winter... any tips on how to wake them up? I have been informed that most colonies wake up from early to late February, and it is the middle of march now... should I be worried? Please reply. At this point just put them in a ...

Re: [Help fast] Should I remove honey from my ant queen if she is not eating it?

Feed her, atleast honey. Found that if the queen is full they are less likely to eat their eggs. They are generally pretty hungry when they wake up from hibernation, and will eat a ton of honey.

Re: Ants in Florida

I'm don't feel it's ethical right to take a queen from a ant colony with workers, but I'm okay with finding them in their founding stage. I agree with this. Ants are important, most die in the founding stage. If you take a queen from a thriving colony, thats messed up. But taking a queen walking on...

Definitely can disturb them, from what I have seen (in my limited experience) it is worth it. The mold is a good point. Make sure to only give them a little bit of food at a time, so they can ...

Re: (Important) Where should I keep my ant queen?

They are fine with minor vibrations. They do live underground, and a lot of stuff causing vibrations and such. Dont worry too much about it. Keep them warm, keep them fed (as stated elsewhere, I like to make sure my queen are fat and full. Make them less likely to eat their eggs. They all love honey...
