Looks like a Lasius parasite.

The aphids might not be the best idea, simply because they are probably well-defended. If you are able to buy from a pet store, those will work best.

From what I've heard, there's quite a bit of coloration differences in S. molesta. They probably are queens.

Taking the cotton itself out is fine, I do that with mine. What do you mean by bread up?
