Re: First Brachymyrmex colony
It's been a while. In the last update on September 3, this colony had 2 nanitics. This colony has grown quite a lot. So, first off, they decided to murder one of the queens so now there is 6. That strange light colored queen is still alive though and I'm pretty sure she is just a different color mor...

Re: First Brachymyrmex colony
Today (7-11-16), I found three Brachymyrmex queens in my pool. They are the smallest queens I have ever caught! I haven't done much research on Brachymyrmex, but all I know is that they are Polygynous and the workers are extremely tiny, black, and love sugary things. Regular people just call them s...

Re: P. floridana, P. moerens, D. bureni Youtube video
Awesome, I wish I had Pheidole ! Also, it's nanitic, not nantic. Wow.. I've always thought it was nantic. I did some research and apparently other people also think it is nantic. Some websites even spell it like that haha: http://antark.net/ant-life/ant-life-cycle/ant-pupae/ Thanks for correcting me!

P. floridana, P. moerens, D. bureni Youtube video
I recorded videos of my Pheidole floridana, Pheidole moerens, and Dorymyrmex bureni queens on my camera with a macro lens and I put them together in this YouTube video. The video might automatically be bad quality, but there is an option to change it to up to 1080p if you want to see the most detail...

http://i1174.photobucket.com/albums/r609/astoll9/Mobile%20Uploads/IMG_5172_zps1sqo7dfd.jpg Now she has 2 eggs! This species actually has very small colonies, usually not getting larger than 20-30 workers. That's why she isn't laying many eggs. I've been feeding her every couple days. So far I've fe...

They probably meant 15mm instead of 150mmMdrogun wrote:Just an FYI 1cm = 10mm. You said that the Carebara male was 1.5cm or 150mm. If he was 150mm he would be 15cm long which is far bigger than the biggest ant.

Nantics!
This group of queens has nantics now! I believe there are 2 of them, both newly eclosed so they aren't black yet. It took me a moment to see them because they were creeping around, hiding under the pupae and everything. And they are very tiny. These ants took a while to develop in their pupae, I thi...

Re: Crematogaster journal
First let me start by saying, you may want to remove the cling wrap, they still need air and if you put that on top they wont get enough air. I thought about that, I will be lifting up the cling wrap every day/every other day to make sure they have oxygen. And maybe the light colored alate could be...
