New family not eating
Hello all. My queen that I caught at the beginning of August finally had 5 daughters that were born about a month ago. Since then I've put the test tube in a very basic outworld, however, they do not leave test tube. As a food tray, I use a lid of of a pill bottle and have placed honey, different me...

Could this be a Formica queen?
Does anyone know if this is a Formica queen? I found her trying to scurry along the pavement next to a flower garden right before a rain storm. As soon as I picked her up she started bending in half, messing with the tip of her abdomen. She did not have wings when I found her. I live in NW Ohio. htt...

Re: Accidentally found a nest, what should I do now?
Thank you for the input, I wasn't expecting this to happen all of the sudden, so I'm gonna make some upgrades to be more accommodating.

Accidentally found a nest, what should I do now?
To anyone out there I need some quick advice. A few weeks ago along the side of the shed there was a pile of bricks and there were some ants coming out so I started to move the bricks and it was a humongous ant colony. Today we built a compost pile next to the pile of bricks however, when I moved th...

Adding larvae
I found a wingless camponotus queen a few weeks ago and tubed her. She still has not laid any eggs. Does anyone know what would happen if I put larvae from another colony in with this queen? Do you think it would entice her to start laying her own, at the same time taking no care of the foreign larv...

Re: Ohio Camponotus queen?
I did place a bit of honey in the tube a few days ago and she did gobble it up, I just don't know how many resources to give at this point, and should I change her out of the tube if it looks like it's getting contaminated from the food items.

Ohio Camponotus queen?
Can anyone verify if this is a queen? I'm in Ohio and was planting flowers a few weeks ago and she came crawling out of the flower box to my surprise. We had a warm spell with rain at the time. Any help would be appreciated. http://i349.photobucket.com/albums/q380/guerolindo72/A773F6A9-AD4A-44EE-A16...

Hello Mike My name is Jeff and I live in Bowling Green. I didn't think I would meet anybody on my first day on the forum who is from Ohio let alone Northwest Ohio on my first day in the forum. A few weeks ago I was planting flowers in the flower box and came across what I think is a queen. She didn'...
