Re: Argentine Ants?
Sorry after doing further research it was just in a handful of large counties in CA, didn't do the research on that, my apologies. It's the LA area, along with lots of other counties. Also, someone on formiculture got a warning from the government (FDA?) for keeping them. They have the message from ...

Re: How To Catch Prenolepis Imparis
I saw males flying just the other day. Females will come out when it's in the high 60's, low 70's, the first day that these temperatures are met, is when you should look. They will start flying with females in February, up until April. They fly from late noon to around six. Hope this helps!

Re: Argentine Ants?
First of all Mikey keeps ants that are native to the Philippines, and invasive in other areas. Secondly, I was just saying, that they would inevitably escape and when they do, most likely kill other colonies of native ants that are being kept or living near them. As for Tetramorium, it has found its...

Re: YsTheAnt's Camponotus Modoc Journal
They haven't done anything in almost a week, but they are still alive and well in the nest. I think that they have a longer diapause period. What's wierd is that they ate the big larva, so I honestly thought they were out of it. I'll just let them be, the GAN farmer that I got them from hibernates h...

Right now. These ants need to be put into hibernation by mid November at a stretch. Studies show that their brood development and production stops in late August to September, until late January or February. Give her until February, preferably longer before taking her out of hibernation. Mine stoppe...

Re: YsTheAnt's Camponotus Modoc Journal
I think that keeping them in hibernation is a good idea and I agree with what the GAN farmer said about food because they might get hungry(you never know) BTW. I think your formacarium is AWESOME! Keep posting in your journal because I'm Keeping the same ants and your journal helps me learn about o...

Thanks!
I took mine out after they ate the larva, and put them in in early September as well, so I think it's long enough. I think you should keep yours in for about four months for best results.

Re: YsTheAnt's Camponotus Modoc Journal
Lots has happened with this colony. First of all, I took them out of hibernation about two weeks ago. Upon closer inspection, I saw that they had eaten the largest larva, and had fed it to the smaller ones while I wasn't looking, because they had grown substantially. Also, I moved them into one of m...
