Household foods to feed ants?
I’m starting a small colony of Formica ants, and I’m going to need to feed them soon. Thing is, I’m a bit squeamish around bugs. Is there any common household foods the ants can eat as an alternative to roaches or crickets?

Re: Queen exited her nest for some reason?
Ok, now her nanitics have moved in with her outside the bottle. It seems that they find the space UNDER the bottle a more suitable home than INSIDE it. I dont know why they would choose that, as they’re a lot more exposed on the outside of it there. Is there a way to get them to move back inside?

Re: Queen exited her nest for some reason?
Not exactly sure what exact species, but they’re definitely a Formica species. Maybe Formica Moki? Still not 100% sure.

Queen exited her nest for some reason?
So, when I caught my ant queen, I put her in a tiny, emptied-out shampoo bottle. Then, when I saw workers about a month later, I put that bottle in a jar with an olive oil barrier. I took the stopper out of the bottle so they could come out and forage. But then, a week later, I see the queen on the ...

Can a test tube portal be used as an outworld?
I recently ordered an AC hybrid nest and an AC test tube portal. Thing is, I blew all my money on those. I don’t know if I’ll have gotten enough money for the (kinda expensive) outworld by the time I get enough workers. So I was wondering, can an AC test tube portal be used as a replacement for an o...

Well, what a great coincidence!
Well, when I thought she was camponotus, I went shopping for a hybrid nest. The camponotus one was out of stock, so I got Formica. So if it IS Formica, then I made the right choice.

Found a queen during Scout Camp in the high sierras, need ID
So I found an ant queen wandering around Camp Whitsett in the high Sierras in early July 2019. She’s black with a red thorax, and I’m pretty sure she might be a carpenter ant. Anyone know the species? I put iCloud links to the images below. https://share.icloud.com/photos/0bcf0OfBBmicO4ZcBHG9bHM5w h...
