Sounds like your ants may need protein. Without a good source of protein, the queen will eat the eggs. The brood need protein to develop. Best source is insects. And yes, they need fresh water, not just sugar water.

It depends on what you can afford and how much room you have. I see advantages to both. My personal preference is separate, for one simple reason - cleaning. It's relatively simple to disconnect an outworld, switch in a new one, dump any straggler ants into the new outworld and give the old one a go...

Are you giving them any protein? Your queen won't be healthy without it, as she needs it for eggs, and the brood won't develop unless they get a steady source of it. They can't thrive or survive long on just sugar water. Insects like crickets are best.
