Actually, I think I need to stick with my gut -- Formica pallidefulva looks so much like Myrmecocystus to me. I would need more detailed photographs in order to tell. Thanks! From the new pictures I'm feeling like these are fully claustral Myrmecocystus queens. While their range in Colorado is a little questionable, I'm pretty sure M. mimicus, with its many color variations would fit that nice red.

Your queen is Camponotus novaeboracensis. Camponotus queens all have pretty big heads, but none (at least in North America) are social parasites.
