Re: Why do you never put the queen into a formacarium before she has 20 workers?

Biggest issue is that they will use the formicarium as a garbage dump, which will cause it to mold. So you will have to move them anyway. On top of that they feel better is small spaces, so it does no good putting them in there. At most I like to have a test tube connected to a test tube portal, the...

Re: 8 Queens to Identify, help!

Whoops I didn't mean to say prenolepis imparis for #2! I meant #1! Sry! It does look like it, however it is way too big! #1 is 13mm long, Winter ants are generally at most 9mm long. I also can't find a carpenter ant that looks like it. Its gotta be some sort of Formica, only ones that are that big ...

Re: Hitch3’s Camponotus Consobrinus Journal

I am a very strong proponent of feeding fully-claustural queens. Who knows if they were properly fed in the nest before going on their nuptual flight. I dont feed them often, at most once a month, and generally only carbs (honey, as they generally drink it clean so there is no chance at mold). Give ...

Any chance you get, kill invasive species. They are detrimental to the ecosystem.

She will move when she wants. Could be in a minute, or a year from now! haha. I have been trying to get 2 to move since before hibernation. They dont want to come out of their tube tho. lol

Re: Queen Feeding

I am a strong proponent of feeding queens. They are skinny after hibernation as well. She needs honey or something similar for energy. I recent fed all of queen ants that came out of hibernation, just honey. They all ate a few drops. Most of them started laying shortly after, 5 out of the 8. I didnt...

You should be fine. Only 3 workers. Just have them out, and be quick. Dont remove the cotton of the tube until there are no ants on it. I Did this the other day with a colony of 7...just dont drop them! haha. Good luck!
