Queens Lay Eggs Too Soon!!?!
Hey ACAF! I have been lucky enough to stumble upon 2 Beautiful queen ants so far this season! I am most likely done searching because both have started to lay eggs and are well on the way to a great colony! (fingers crossed)! In order to ask my question properly I need to tell the story of finding t...

Sacramento, May 29, Common Black Ant
I believe she may be a "pavement" ant or something similar to it. I found her inbetween two colonies nesting in the cracks of the sidewalk about 20 ft from each other. After seeing a number of "fallen" male elates I got to looking and there she was running out onto the blacktop of the road! It had J...

Awesome! That really puts my mind at ease. She definitely keeps them "clumped" together wherever she moves them to! The oldest of them are now 12 days old! I'm Super excited for my first little pupae!

Re: Help.......
I had a similar issue when I was getting started. I put water at the bottom of the test tube on the cotton and was able to hold the tube at the round(stuck cotton) side and flick it Manny times almost like throwing a yoyo. It slowly began to move and eventually came shooting out!

My Queen is Moving Eggs in Tube
Hey AC Fam!! I have a beautiful Liometopum Occidentale Queen! She has laid a nice clutch of about 30 eggs. Recently I've done my best to not look at her or disturb her but I really want to see her first brood so typically I wait 2 to 4 days to check on her but these last two days I snuck in a peak! ...

Hey ACAF! My name is Jordan. I have always loved ants but never took the opportunity to get started. Now I'm head over heals in love! I recently went camping near my house and stayed in a trailer that been sitting for a few weeks. After a long day of finding A MILLION ant colonies I had no luck at f...

Re: Red Bluff, Tehema County, CA, May 5 One Queen
I totally can't believe it! She was in a camping trailer that's been on the property for 2 weeks! I went to lay down and go to bed after an evening of not finding anything and BOOM! There she was no more than 2 feet from my head running around on my backpack! Just goes to show, nature doesn't always...
