Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I might be wrong but I think the nests get specialized and the out worlds are all the same product. That doesn't make an $80 acrylic football any more affordable but it is nice that both: the nests mimic the natural nests when matched, and you can reuse the out world for a different kind of ant if y...

Re: Protective Custody

Tupperware tubs with greased rims for a new enclosure. Transfer attempts not so ideal. Found some tubes to use ahead of my amazon tubes, got them rinsed, watered, cotton balled, and wrapped in foil. Inmate 1 had a brand new worker fresh from the cocoon, still a bit soft and clumsy going by how she w...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

That's something I'm worried about a little, if I get to the stage of having enough workers from Minnie that they need more than a test tube, trying to keep those teeny tiny 1/16th of an inch workers contained and not have them get out of cracks between connectors or something! Yeah, with their low...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Apply as needed sounds good to me. Wasn't sure if there was a suction or hook effect we were specifically combating, will be transferring them into the outworld tonight then. I'm sure they'll be pleased to have more than 6" squared to explore.

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I think there was something with corn starch that doesn't make it suitable for ants, as it won't be slippery. I read it on the forum somewhere. Thanks, I kinda figured it would be a bit like ground corn in that it would also mold faster and/or be food. Looks like I'll go with Vaseline then, how thi...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

You can always leave some outside and see what comes to get it. Wish I had experience to share... My ants finished all their chicken offering by now as well, so you can likely share some off your frozen pizza like I did XD. Also finally drug myself to the store for nesting supplies today, I was not ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Nice find! If you go there again trying to find that Camponotus queen its a good idea to grab a small hatchet, the blade is a good wedge to pry apart the galleries for a better look, and of course its useful to really split it open and dig in deep. My queens were in the top part of the log about 1 l...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

So my ants are eating great, already finished the smaller bits of chicken that crumbled during portioning. At this rate the question of how often to feed is coming up. Do I just offer them as much as I can without letting their habitat becoming unsanitary?

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Was wondering what happened, bummer luck on the car and no ants. Ill make it a point to grab some of those as well. Perhaps I can get my ladies in tubes a day or two sooner.

Re: Protective Custody

Well the honey was well received, no trace left in either cell so they were rewarded with some cooked chicken crumbs. Checking in on them today they had tons of energy to flee from the light. They should have tube nests and Tupperware cells within the week, looks like they'll have no problem lasting...
