Re: Small desert workers ID
I think you might be right. That's really cool. I don't think they're truly honeypot ants but being in the same genus is cool.

Re: Southern Cali Worker ID
I would say definitely not Pheidole simply because of the color. Pheidole (at least the various species I've seen) tend to have a rough exoskeleton that is bright red or brown in color. These are smooth, shiny, and jet black, and their head shape isn't even close to Pheidole Harvester ants sounds pl...

I am really curious now. I hope he is able to crop and upload the images to imgur, Flickr, or photobucket so we can see them.

Small desert workers ID
Another colony I discovered in the dry rocky Mojave desert, harvesting a crushed m&m. http://imgur.com/gallery/lqzKuN9 They are 2-3mm long and have a surprisingly painful bite. It's far from unbearable but I didn't expect to feel pain at all. Very interesting. They are also very fast, making clear p...

Re: I NEED A QUEEN ID!!!! WA, AUSTRALIA!
I'm no taxonomist but that looks pretty solidly like Pheidole. You'll need clearer photos for a more positive ID though. Try to get front and side profile shots as well. I've kept several species from this genus, they're very easy to care for. They're granivorous and insectivorous, and prefer about ...

You'll need to post photos for a positive ID Here's a guide on taking photos http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?p=21844#p21844 Try to get a top, side and front profile shot of the ants, in as much focus as you can. Here's a guide for posting the images. https://youtu.be/c1Mu4Rw3s8w Be sure to...

Southern Cali Worker ID
I was camping out in the Mojave desert and I spotted these girls in the dry rocky soil. http://imgur.com/a/3gD7iv7 I don't have an accurate way to measure them out here but against the width of my Pinkie (~10cm) I would say the largest majors are 6mm and the smallest majors are 3mm. The nest entranc...

Re: BleedingRaindrops's Okinawan Ants
alright, it's another week and my ant queens have made some exciting progress. Good news and bad. Bad news first, Anna has died. I suspected she would not do well when she did not lay eggs as fast as the others and it seems my suspicions were correct. I found her beginning to mold when I checked on ...
