I'm not sure what else they would be if they aren't a camponotus species. I'm far from being an expert, but a black queen ant that big sounds exactly like our carpenter ants. Lol, sweet. I was pretty much the same when I noticed she was missing two of her wings. Going to go on a search around my neighborhood tomorrow to see if I can find a couple more now that I know for sure that camponotus is flying now.

Anyone know kind of an average date that any nuptial flights start in western WA? I'm new to ant keeping and I'm looking foward to catching a queen, but I'm still yet to see any ants around either despite the fact that it's been pretty warm for quite a while around where I live
