The main issue is that unless the formicarium is built as a vivarium small colonies won't benefit from all the microbes and other cleaners (decomposers like springtails, nematodes) and the ants themselves won't be well equipped to manage a space like that. Hey Redhotwaffles, My first note is that in my experience 71 degrees is a bit chilly for Tetramorium, they normally nest close to the surface under rocks or pavement which absorb heat from the sun and radiate it into their nest.
