Re: This will be potentially an ongoing question!

I have some, also the smallest I have seen. Less then half the size of a myrmica worker. Turns out they are tetramorium. Queen is bigger than myrmica queen, but still smaller than lasius or formica. But the workers are tiny, too small to sting you, and very adventurous. They are far more outgoing th...

Re: I have to fumigate my house... advice?!

Honestly, the test tube idea sounds great. Could probably bring some ants in the next day and have them there for a day. If they dont die you're good to go. Can always be more safe and wait longer. But honestly if it was that lethal, human would not be allowed in there either as it would at the very...

Re: Red tinted water in test tube

It has molded, get them a new test tube. Make sure you clean the new test tube well and wash your hands before touching the cotton. Somehow alot of bad bacteria was introduced when you created the setup. As far as what is causing the red, not a clue, but it must be related to the mold/bacteria

Re: Hybrid Nest?

You can buy a cable off amazon. It only goes through once. And condensation is fine. If anything give them some dirt or sand and then put it on the condensation to absorb it

Re: Multiple Myrmica sp Queen Help

I have not successfully put myrmica together in WA. Even when I catch them feet from each other, they always end up killing each other, but they do just fine alone. I dont trust em!

Definitrly hibernate them next year. Chances are they hibernate themselves even at the higher temperature. Their growth should explode this year as long as not having a cold temperature didn't throw them off

Re: First workers, when should I migrate them from the test tube setup

Dont use dirt from outside. If you just want to use it as an out world. Put some store bought sand in n there and wet it down to get the dust off the top(makes them fall if you dont wet it at least once) then you're good to go. Do not worry about over feeding, people make too big of a deal about it....

Re: Washington State nuptials?

Not yet! Soon! I have already started walking outside a bit, but it is just too cold. Once the high for the day gets to ~60, start looking! I wouldnt expect much until April though, still hoping to find a winter ant. =/

Re: Um help?

They love to dig. When you put the sand in make sure you pack it down (reduces the change of collapse). Get it wet, then pack it again. Depending on how the tower moisturizes, you may need to water the sand once in a while as well.
