So anyway......
Still no queens. Looking at the projected weather, it wont be steadily above 60 until May. Hopefully the forecast is wrong and we get a heatwave! :D

Re: Feeding new colony.

Mine generally dont like to leave the test tube. I need to put the food inside of the entrance for them to get it. They dont need an out world until they have quite a few workers.

Re: Dry Mealworms

I wouldn't feed them. If you are going to keep them, you need to give them oats + some veggies (for water). 1 thing my ants have loved are frozen meal worms. Just toss them in the freezer, and you're good to go. Take one out and cut it up when you are ready to feed the ants.My ants actually prefer f...

Looks like Novomessor. Your ant is definitely semi-claustral. Feed her! :)

Re: Northern Idaho

Hi! Welcome to ant keeping. We just started last year. Queens will normally be around from April to Sept. Just go for walks on sidewalks and keep your eyes on the ground! I carry a few "snap cap" vials with me whenever I go for a walk just in case I come across some. The ants just woke up here in We...

If you are able to get extra would you want to unload a few?
I would love to, but only if they will be kept in Western Washington! I am a firm believer in not letting them to not native areas! There are quite a few species that live in western WA but not in eastern WA.

Feed your queens!!

Hi Everyone, PSA here, feed your queens! Yes they can generally survive without food if fully-claustral. Of course they don't need as much as semi-claustral, and I generally don't feed the fully-claustral protein (as they should have it in their wing reserves). Feeding a queen honey SIGNIFICANTLY re...
