None of them appear to be a Formica sp. except the fourth queen.

Oh, do you know what species it is? Parasitic Formica that look like this tend to be difficult to identify to the species until they have their very first workers. (Not host workers) I may be able to identify the species group however, if I can get a front shot of her clypeus. I presume this ant to...

Lasius americanus not Lasius niger for queens 3 through 24. Second queen is a Formica sp. First seems to also be Lasius americanus, with a gaster that’s less distended. Why Lasius Americanus? Lasius americanus not Lasius niger for queens 3 through 24 as Lasius americanus is the only niger-group Lasius sp. flying until later this August. Second queen is a Formica sp. First seems to also be Lasius americanus, with a gaster that’s less distended.

Ants that naturally hibernate in the wild would be best suited to hibernate when required, and not kept from it. Some people don’t hibernate however, but egg production seems to be slower.
