Re: Ant Euthanasia
Hey guys, I know some of you will tell me not to or to just give them away or something. However, I have to euthanize my sugar band ant colony due to a private reason, considering I can't release them nor sell them as I need the equipment. I have a new meat ant colony with 3 workers and alot of bro...

Happy Anting!
There is nothing wrong with starting out with n established colony. You may find yourself collecting a couple queens this spring/summer anyhow

Re: Daughter is hooked on AC vids.... overwhelmed
I personally enjoy the thrill of catching queens and raising a colony that way. I have tossed around the idea of purchasing online, but finding a trustworthy source is tricky. In Canada the laws are a little less strict as the US. Check out Tarheel ants, They are a very professional company that sel...

Re: Daughter is hooked on AC vids.... overwhelmed
Hi guys! I let my 7 year old daughter pick out science videos before bedtime if she does not feel like a book. First, thanks for all your Enthusiasm, and for making great content. She is hooked on AC vids! I agreed to get into the hobby since I want to support her interests. As a kid ants were my f...

Re: Queen dies after having nanitics?
That is rather unfortunate. I've had this happen only a couple of times, I put the cause to an already unhealthy queen. Where are you located? "Black house ant" is a very broad term. Do some more research to find out the exact genus and species of your ant, and you may find some more specific dieta...

Re: Ant Keeping/Finding a Queen
Hi! New to ant keeping show me your ants farms please. If anyone also has any idea when the mating flights in Washington, happen lmk! I believe your first flights would be in late April early may, Camponotus. I'm up in alberta so I'm not 100% on any there. Check antwiki for the specific species in ...

Re: Isopods as food for ants
Hi! I am starting my first ant colony and was wondering what I could give them for proteins. I have a nice farm of isopods, but read somewhere that some ants won't eat them as they are too tough to kill. Does anyone have any idea if they can be used as food if they are pre-killed? If so, would they...

Re: Tetramorium or myrmica?
I caught a queen last summer and she is doing well. I was sure she was a tetramorium queen. But now I’m not so sure. I’ve looked at others T. Immigrans colony’s and my ants seem smaller. In Michigan the only other thing it could be is myrmica. They both look a lot alike.it doesn’t matter that much....
