Try this: Moisten the tube in warm water to make it softer, then attempt to squeeze the tubing into the hole. If this doesn't work I don't know what else you could do

Why would you want to freeze them in the first place? To slow them down enough to get a good picture you could just put them in the fridge for a little while..

I have a camponotus pennsylvanicus queen in a test tube and she and the brood were doing fine until winter came and the heat had to be turned on making it quite dry. Based on that I would guess Lasius sp. or Crematogaster sp. but I would wait for a more experienced person to identify them, like batspiderfish. Definitely not Prenolepis imparis if you caught her in September/August.

It's likely a different insect similar to a solitary wasp since its antennae are not elbowed, it's definitely not a(n) (queen) ant.
