Re: Large Mysterious Queen!
Here's some photos, waiting for her to move away from the cotton to measure her. Also her gaster looks alittle smashed. If you know the genus let me know the likelyhood of her making it to the founding stage. http://imgur.com/a/rkQPU http://imgur.com/a/rkQPU http://imgur.com/a/rkQPU Those are all t...

Re: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi Nuptial Flight Thread!!!!!
OH MY GOSH. WE FOUND A QUEEN! I am soooo stoked! We took some photos but I am not sure how clear they are coming out just yet. She was under a plastic soil bin. We moved it and there were several tiny workers with some eggs right along the top of the ground. Barely even looked at it and boom there s...

Re: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi Nuptial Flight Thread!!!!!
More Solenopsis invicta queens!!! Ughhhhh anything different out there??? We were at the park and burrowed into a tree were an interesting looking type. A little boy spotted what we thought might be a queen. Her body was very very long compared to the rest of them. She was outside walking around on...

Right great. It has a tiny sponge in the center for moisture. I assume that will be enough. The sponge is about the size of 3 quarters stacked on top of each other.

Nothing since the lizard incident. They are mellow. I am trying to wait for them to relocate on their own into the fornicarium. I am not sure what I want to try to make the current nest less favorable. We might start scooping out some.

Ohh ok. Solenopsis sp. then? Thats cool if you are learning off of them then. I just hate to see non-invasive species get dug up. Not that i could really say anything other than :( . because its the keepers prerogative. lol Anyway....tips... Learn as much as you can about containment of ants, and wh...

Re: Alabama, Georgia, Florida, Mississippi Nuptial Flight Thread!!!!!
We dug up a whole nest pretty much. I have them in a bin and added a small bin with food. They enjoyed some chicken and a cracker I put in. My fornicarium hasn't arrived yet. Using vaseline my insectaslip should arrive tomorrow. I am enjoying watching them already. I don't even know for sure if we ...
