I found the founding formicaria and inception chambers very difficult to maintain a decent moisture level. It might be better to offer the colony a larger test tube in a relatively inexpensive container until there are sufficient workers to move them into 3-4 chamber formicarium. If it is too large,...

I keep mine in a wine cooler so I can gradually lower the temperature. The lowest it goes is 10C, which seems to be a recommended temperature.

Oops, sorry. You are right. Covered up a 5 mm mark. Actually 10 mm. Magnification can be a tricky business apparently.

I measured her on a tape. I'm saying 6 mm because as soon as she was in the tube, she shoved her head into the cotton to get a drink. Re-checked, she is still max 6 mm. She is quite small. I'm not seeing a spike node. I did manage to get a better picture, but it still doesn't show under the wings. H...

New queen found on a parking lot, SE B.C. 5-6 mm, black/brown, very shiny abdomen, still has wings so photos are difficult for now.
