Re: Formicarium for Temnothorax questions

I kind of want to do as LITTLE building myself as possible. I don't have a lot of supplies or even the most basic materials at my disposal, so anything I need to build would require buying all the materials separately (usually sold in far greater amounts than I'll ever need), and that usually ends ...

Interestingly I just moved from Florida a few months ago. "Cow Ants" as they get called are actually a species of wingless wasp.

Re: Stackable Pill Containers?

This is actually a great idea, I only see one problem, most ants can't climb smooth verticle surfaces. you would need to find a way to make it easier for them to climb. For note with plastic, I have found that a 45-degree angle is about maximum that ants can climb without any slipping, tested on Ca...

Remember measurements. ;) Looks like Tetramorium sp. E , but I wouldn't mind more pictures of the workers. Alrighty, here are some more photos. None came out amazing due to the enclosure. Use the imgur link if you want to be able to zoom a bit. http://imgur.com/a/46Pwu http://i.imgur.com/g8y2khL.jp...

Figures I forgot the measurements. The queen is ~7-8mm. Might be a moment on more pictures, trying to get them to calm down.

Vancouver/Washington/USA - 9/28/16

Found a small colony while walking today, the shape of the chamber made it easy to collect all of the workers, larva, and pupae present. There were 12 workers, a very small batch of eggs, a few larvae, and a single pupae. Colony was under an artificial log. A spider had made it's home right next to ...

Re: Maryland, USA August and September Multiple Queens

I would be careful of putting all of the Brachymyrmex together. Brachymyrmex depilis should have 4 segments to the abdomen and some of those appear to have more. Possibly multiple Brachymyrmex species. I count five gastral tergites on every living queen. Brachymyrmex depilis is the only Brachymyrme...

Re: Any problems with this formicarium idea

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=slse_qq2SXU Any problems with this formicarium idea? Maybe gaps? I don't see anything particularly wrong with these "tackle-box formicariums". Visibility tends not to be the best and sometimes the lids aren't the most secure. An important thing to note is to seal aro...

Re: Stackable Pill Containers?

Alright, done messing around with the prototype (minus drilling a few more air holes on some of the chambers). I actually think it's quite the functional design that'll last a colony a decent amount of time and all for a dollar. There's a lot of different ways you can set this up, like blocking dire...
