Re: How to care for a polygynous queen?

Can a single queen start a colony with multiple queens by herself? Thanks! :D It takes a while for a colony to mature, but if the fertile queen is healthy and is well taken care of I'm sure she can produce queen alates but queens will only mate in the air during their flights and rarely mate in cap...

Re: just a few Spp.

I caught 6 Camponotus sp., about 10 Peidole sp. and so many S. invicta I had to release some. That storm that came through Georgia helped out no doubt :D

Re: How to care for a polygynous queen?

If you are going to put the queens together I would go ahead and do it before they lay too many eggs. I put my Solenopsis queens 2-3 queens per tube. But I don't think your queens would have a problem starting a colony on their own.

If they are the same species then could put them together and hope they're polygynous.

Re: Found 6 queens in my pool :D

They all have eggs and are still healthy. I still don't know what they are, but I think I ruled out Brachymyrmex sp. There are twelve antenna segments and I was told that rules them out for being Brachymyrmex sp.

Re: Solenopsis invicta flew in Georgia

wow! What are you gonna do with em all? Lol, just think that if you hadn't caught them they would have all made nests in your yard  If I hadn't have caught them they would have died lol. I found most of them on the surface of my pool. And I don't know what I'm going to do with them. Maybe I'...

I captured about 85 queens :D I'm putting 2-3 per test tube and I'm pretty sure most of them, if not all, are mated. I caught all of them in my backyard from one spot, in front of my pool filter s...

Thank you very much! :D I thought they may have been invicta too, I just wanted to be sure because I had never seen a Solenopsis queen before finding these two.
