How big is it, and did you get any pictures from the side? I'm just gonna guess Solenopsis from the color but I have no idea how big it is.

Sure! You'd probably want ants that like arid climates though, especially if you're going to use sand.

What species is she? You seemed to have gotten her pretty late. She should've already started hibernating around the middle of the month, and she should be taken out in March. Well, they can always die from things like attacks, diseases, or mite infestations. They're not invulnerable. All colonies will eventually die.
