Okinawa ID, workers and queen caught seperately

So, I caught spotted a queen yesterday and grabbed her. She looks like pheidole and they didn't have a flight recently so she's not new, whatever species she is. The colony nearest where I took her from freaked out after she disappeared, so I think she belongs to them but I'm not sure. Today I went ...

okay, moment of truth. these are the ants that live in the colony I think I stole her from. Just need a species ID and then I can decide whether to introduce them or let them go

Re: I think I caught a mature queen. Tips on collecting workers?

alright well this was her yesterday after I caught her http://i.imgur.com/9DFyXf9.jpg She was hanging out at the dry end of the tube, trying to escape. I'm quite certain she's a queen, because she lacks the disproportionately large head most pheidole majors have. I kept her in a drawer, wrapped in a...

Re: Okinawa Pheidole

A new queen joins the mix. Meet Evelyn. http://i.imgur.com/9DFyXf9.jpg I spotted her while on sentry post today and scooped her up. A nearby colony freaked out after I picked her up though, so I may have stolen their queen. http://forum.AntsCanada.com/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=2440 Oops. Anyway, she is a ...

Re: Heating cable suggestions

Personally I don't trust product listings that don't show the product specs, and definitely not one that doesn't show pictures of the product. I like to know what I'm getting before I order it. I don't know the size or heat rating of a reptile cable, but it might work, given that Mikey has used rept...

I think I caught a mature queen. Tips on collecting workers?

So I was on sentry post today, and there's a colony that lives in the wall of the outpost, and I like to watch them sometimes. Near the start of my post, I saw a much larger ant than the others walking very slowly. They seemed to be walking past and ignoring her, and I was curious. I bent over to ex...

Re: Heating cable suggestions

any cable with a thermostat will do. figure out the favorite temperature for your ants and set it to one or two degrees higher than that, then watch where they settle. https://www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_sb_ss_i_4_9?url=search-alias%3Daps&field-keywords=heating+cable&sprefix=heating+c%2Caps%2C340&crid=3...

Re: Okinawa Pheidole

Just realized I fudged Brittany's image link. http://i.imgur.com/YGx72VR.jpg I also caught Brittany two weeks ago, and she is almost as active now as she was then. She loves her wet cotton ball, and her wings are conforming around her, almost as though they're dissolving. Is that normal? So fascinat...

Okinawa Pheidole

Well, it's my first time raising ant queens and I caught my first two pheidole queens two weeks ago, and then two more just last week. I'm going to check on them every week and document their progress. For convenience I am naming them Ashley, Brittany, Chelsea, and Diane. None of them have laid eggs...
