Looks good to me, maybe a little to much. Ants don't seem to like wind :D Just air.

Glass Jar as formicarium

Hey guys, I got tired of having only tube setups waiting for the queen to lay eggs. It looks so artificial.

I decided to give some dirt and environment habitat to this queen, Messor sp.



How does it look? Hope she likes it :D

how are you hibernating yours ScaryBuh? :) :) I'm keeping them at the kitchen, it's not to much warm or cold... also I can put half of them outside to see their reaction. Would like suggestions on this! I would be careful not to jump to conclusions. True! Seems that I already have a crematogaster, ...

yes, the queen hibernates.
From what I read and watch, the colony that hibernates in winter gets much more active the next year. The queen lay more eggs and workers have more speed

How are you going to hydrate her?

I would suggest you to put some water in the tube, blocking with cotton the water and then the queen in the middle, closing the tube with another cotton.
There are a bunch of how to do a "test tube setup for queen ants" in youtube.
