Re: Any ant keepers in Virginia?

Sorry I should have been more specific. Any ant selling or trading needs to go thru the AntsCanada GAN project, we don't want trading or selling of ants on the forums itself. Yes if you know someone who hunts for ants please encourage them to join the GAN project so that they may help others in that...

Re: Moving the Queen

Basically they will move when they want too. I usually place my hand on the tube to feel the temp of it to determine the distance of the light. It should not be hot but just a little warm, the temperature change will be enough to make them want to get away from it. You should notice that if it's war...

Re: New Camponotus pennsylvanicus Queen! Carpenter Ant

Caught it yesterday and the temp in the morning was around 70*F. Also yea I know they grow slow but good thing for me I'm in the south so I don't have to hibernate her. And yes I know they love to pull out cotton that's why there is a wire mesh cover on the test tube not cotton.

Re: Caught 2 Queens! Back in the game!

Put the test tube in a Tupperware bowl with a lid that has some small air holes in it. You can also use a alcohol/baby power mixture that you can apply around the upper part of the bowl to cover yourself if this one gets thru the cotton also. Just a thought.

Re: Any ant keepers in Virginia?

Please read my posting about this earlier on in this thread. Please do not ask others on the forums about getting ants.

Thanks,

Re: Moving the Queen

Most of the time when I move my ants between fresh tubes I'll use a regular light bulb that gives of some heat and also light. I'll place that near the old tube, not too close as to over heat the ants but enough that they will want to move away from it. The fresh tube I will cover with something tha...

Re: Is this ok for a test tube alternative?

The problem I see with that container is that it is very wide, having that your going to have a hard time keeping a reserve amount of water in it and also there is a high chance that it may leak past the cotton and drown the queen inside. As colo3000 stated you can go to a craft store and find them,...
