Ah ok. 3 of my other Solenopsis are laying eggs :). They have anywhere from 5 - 8 eggs. Was hoping this was not Solenopsis though I need a non fire ant soil dweller about this size. Guess I will just have to keep on looking.

Do their colors and size vary a good bit? The others are 5 mm this one is 7 mm. The others have a prominent brownish red area on their abdomen thus one does not.

Sorry about the blurry pictures, have not quite gotten the hang of taking macro pictures. Caught two more queens like the three that died, still thinking they may be males. If anyone has a clue what they are please let me know. It is the last series of pictures posted.

Personally do not see the point. If it were done for scientific purposes then maybe. The ones I saw were sold as art though. They were casting fire ant nests that are not native and invasive, do not have a problem with them killing the ants. It is probably more humane than baits or poisons. Just see...

Still not positive they were queens, still have 4 fire ant queens, and 2 different Camponotos queens so definitely still in the hobby, hoping to get a few more Campo queend.

Well I checked on thsee today and all of them are deceased :(. Oh well time to clean out those test tubes and find replacements.
