Sad day today, noticed a dead nanitic in my C. pennsylvanicus test tube. How long do these first nanitics live? Some times it takes weeks or even a month to lay eggs. Would not worry too much.

One of my Camponotus castaneus queens has her first nanitic. That is the colony I have wanted ever since I saw the queen. Pictures will be coming soon. The pennsylvanicus is soon to be moved to my daughters room and this one will be my focus for a while.

Was really concerned about her for a while, she got really skinny before the nanitics came. She fattened back up quickly though once they got here.

Most of the winged ones I have caught raised brood, probably 75%. Of course you will not know until workers successfully e close :).

Have always loved ants, and have always wanted a colony with a queen. One day my daughter and I were walking through the woods when she said ooh I think that is a queen ant. After a mad search we found a plastic bottle to put her in, then realized I have no idea how to care for her. So of course aft...
