Ive just recently caught lasius niger queens, They are very very skittish from what I have seen, best thing to do is make sure its roughly 20c, don't expose them to light, or vibrations, I accidently tapped my shelf and seen them all freak out, they are fully claustral, so once you put them in a set...

Something you can try is to use two kitchen towels, or smaller similar things and place the test tube or other set up on top of it, assuming it isn't heavy, a majority of the vibrations from physical object will be lessened, sadly can't do much about the air vibrations.

Most small DIY shops also sell it and its only about £1-2 for a metre of it. As for alternatives, like the others said, straws if it is short but I wouldn't expect that to work out well if you need to connect multiple straws. Man that's a lot of info but its extremely useful. I am definitely worried about stressing her through trying to feed her, but it is good to know it isn't impossible to have her restart.
