Tackle box formicariums?

I saw this idea from idahoantgirl and there is a video on youtube about making a formicarium out of a bead organizer/tackle box. I want to do this for my ants since it is very cheap and easy to make. I bought some tackle boxes and I plan on replacing the plastic lid with glass to make it escape proo...

Re: Worker ID

Bump. These do look like P. dentata like Batspiderfish said, but could I get even more opinions possibly?

Re: Trachymymex sp. Journal

Wow! You are so lucky! I've been wanting to catch a Trachymyrmex queen all summer. They have nests all around my house and I've witnessed them having nuptial flights, but I still have not seen or caught a fertile queen.

Worker ID

Today at 6:00 pm I was walking around looking for queens, when I found a pile of dead leaves, acorns, and other natural debris. I looked closer and there were a bunch of ants walking in this pile of stuff and around it. They looked like Solenopsis invicta at first due to the very similar coloring, b...

Nantics!

August 8, 2016 A few days ago I noticed my Crematogaster queen's pupae were getting darker, so I knew there would be nantics very soon. Now there is one! It is gray in color but it may get darker as its exoskeleton hardens. It must have just eclosed-- there are more on the way. Here is the wonderfu...

My Pheidole morens queen, super small!

This isn't a journal, but just a post showing one of my queens that doesn't have a journal. I have a few small ant species, Brachymyrmex patagonicus , Pheidole moerens , and another unknown Pheidole species. My unknown Pheidole queens (I have two) are about 5 mm and my Brachymyrmex patagonicus queen...

Re: First Brachymyrmex colony

It would be great if this ended up being a colony with two different species. Hopefully that happens! Remember to update us once there are workers, and hopefully again if/when there are multiple species. Yes, I love updating my journals! I always check all my 14 queens and hope there is something I...

Cocoons!

So in the past week or two, there have been a ton of eggs and just a couple larvae visible. Now, there are TONS of larvae with a couple pupae! And this is my only species that actually makes cocoons around its pupae. When I was shining my phone flashlight while observing the larvae, pupae, and queen...

Re: Pseudomyrmex gracilis journal

I had to switch to another setup because she just wasn't doing anything in her old one. The new setup is now a piece of tubing (about 3 feet long) with a wet cotton ball inside. I saw this Pseudomyrmex setup in someone's youtube video. I fed her a piece of steak a few days ago and she loved it, and ...
