Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Sooo, little newbie ant is moving around full speed, nearly full color, or maybe just her own color not sure. I set them up on my desk, with the portal, tiny bit of honey on a piece of foil, straw exit through the cotton into the portal. The minute I started layering red plastic over the nest tube, ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

so not related to ants but thought i'd post here just to get yalls impression, would you guys like me to keep a log on my first time trying to raise a tarantula from a cute spiderling all the way to a thing of nightmares? I've handled an adult a couple times, but sure, it sounds like an awesome adv...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

OMG guys!! Helena, my cremato, has OFFICIALLY eclosed her first worker! She is so freaking tiny, about half again bigger than a sugar ant, and I almost didn't think she was moving yet but she slowly crawled under the queen and I could see her shiny little butt moving! She is still darkening, mostly ...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

OMG guys, I think my cremato queen's single pupa that's survived this long is turning a light golden tan!! It's about half the size of the feral workers I've seen, but it's definitely not white anymore! Also, she's being really twitchy/protective with any light whatsoever... even the red light! I ca...

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

WOW, those giant forest ants are indeed huge! I would imagine you'd have to dedicate some 50-100 gallon tanks and a whole room of networked clear pvc pipes or something for that colony! Also - I wouldn't want to be outside during a nuptial flight of those huge critters.

Re: Welcome to the Camponotus Crew!

I think that it takes about a week maybe less. Squeee! Okay. I checked on her today to alleviate my 'rampaging cannibal queen' worries, and she's moved the pupa under her instead of to the side so she can guard it better. She also reacted calmer to the red light, though I couldn't tell if she still...
